Turtle Birthday Cookies

For those of you in the Midwest right now here is a little slice of hope for warm days to come....

Look at how warm these turtles look, basking on a nice sandy (brown sugar) beach in nice warm sunlight.
Soon (I really really hope) we can all be out enjoying nice sunny weather, instead of all this snow :(

These cookies were made for a super sweet little boy for his 5th birthday.
The big turtle cookie is filled with nerds and 5 jelly beans to celebrate being 5!

I should have a tutorial coming up soon for these fun turtle-tastic cookies!
Stay warm everyone!

Coffee for your birthday

I love coffee, it makes my morning, heck the smell of it just perks me up....
which is probably why I love working in a coffee shop.

One of the many perks of working at a coffee shop is free coffee.  I get a free pound a week which means I have loads and loads of coffee.... I have coffee coming out my ears!  So what do I do with all this coffee?  Naturally, I make cookies!

These coffee bean cookies are coffee flavored with a chocolate raspberry royal icing which makes them  Raspberry Mocha Cookies!

They were a gift for a friends birthday who happens to be from Korea.  I thought the mug would be a nice way for him to remember Minneapolis when he eventually returns to Korea.

P.S even I make mistakes sometimes/very often can you catch my mistake on these cookies?

Giddy Up!

Giddy Up ya'll!

These cute horse cookies were made for one of my old students 5th birthday!

The birthday girl is in love with horses!

For her Birthday her parents rented a petting zoo in lieu of gifts!  How fun is that!

I got to hand deliver these lovely cookies with my hubby the day of there party.
While there we got to pet bunnies, ducks, chickens, geese, lamas, goats and sheep as well as one very fluffy dog.

To top it off there was even a pony that looked a whole lot like the cookies I brought.

This cookie looks just like blueberry the real pony at the party :D
Unfortunately I was way to big for a pony ride, but the birthday girl sure did love it!
I hope you all love these cookies as much as the birthday girl did!

Have a special event coming up in your future? Feel free to contact me about custom cookies for the event, I am willing to try anything!

Korean Wedding Cookies

As you saw in my previous post my best friend in Korea is getting married.

I made chicken cookies for him and didn't want his soon to be wife to be left out.
They are having a Korean Catholic wedding but I thought it would be fun to do some cookies decorated in a traditional Korean wedding theme.
The cookies are a mix of Lemon Vanilla, Chocolate Raspberry and Vanilla Bean.

After the ceremony the happy couple is showered with dates and chestnuts which they try and catch in a cloth between them.  The chestnuts represent boys and the dates girls.  The number they catch represents the number of children they will have.  I really hope this is not true because when Lee and I got married we caught a ton of them......

Every couple in Korea is given a pair of wooden ducks by their family.  Ducks mate for life and they are used to symbolize longevity in the marriage.  There are also a fun way to tell how the couple is doing.  When the ducks are facing each other that means that the couple is happy, however if they are back to back it means they are fighting.

Looks like happy times ahead

Lack and Hey Young his wife to be are getting married on the 13th of April which is the height of cheery blossom season in Korea.  I thought it was only appropriate that they have some cherry blossom cookies for their special day.

Congratulations to the happy couple I wish all the best for you!

Madeleine Breakfast

Happy Sunday everyone!
As you know Sundays are my fun breakfast day.
Today I decided to make one of Lee's favorites.....Madeleines

These are jazzed up with lemon zest.  They are perfect with a nice cup of coffee.  I like them best fresh out of the oven when they are nice and warm and still have a bit of crispness to them.

Hope you have a delicious Sunday!

Hospice Cookie Bouquet

This cookie bouquet was made as a donation for an upcoming hospice fundraising event.

I hope they are able to raise a fair amount of money for the group.

The cookies are decorated like the invitation for the event and are using the hospice colours for this year.

Feel free to contact me at vanessaslingsby@gmail.com if you are looking for a donation for your group or if you want to order a cookie bouquet to donate yourself!

Tie and Bow Tie baby shower cookies

How cute are these?  I think they are just perfect to celebrate the coming of a new baby boy!

The cookies were hand cut and styled off of sample pictures the client sent me that she found on pinterest.

It was a fun change for me to work with colored icing instead of painting.

It was fun to use a wet on wet technique to try out different designs.  I hope you enjoy them.
I think these would be cute for a baby girl too, hair bows and dresses maybe.....

Stay sweet everyone!

Banana Cupcakes

Cupcakes are not my specialty, but it is fun to make them every now and then.

Banana chocolate chip cupcakes with cinnamon vanilla butter cream.

It is even more fun to decorate them with cookies on top!

Who wouldn't want a happy smiling banana on top of their cupcake?

Chicken Party

One of my closest friends is getting married!

Back in his single days he use to come over to my apartment in Korea and we would have chicken together along with my hubby and talk about life and love.
When hubby and I moved to the U.S. we both really missed our chicken parties, as did my good friend in Korea.
no sprinkles on these cookies....these are decorated with sesame seeds

As a wedding gift I decided to give my good friend a chance to re-live his single chicken party days with these cookies.

Sending cookies is not quite as good as being there in person but it is almost as good.

pickled radish, yang yum chicken, chop sticks

who wants a cold refreshing coke?

Or a nice cold swig of cass?
Congrats on your wedding Lack!
